The appeal of the blog is not entirely associated with the individual writer. Many bloggers gain enjoyment by becoming members of loose blogging rings or even highly structured, exclusive clubs. These blogging communities lend a sense of belonging and warmth to an otherwise vast plane of online space and have contributed to the popularity of the web blog by utlilizing the communicative qualities that have made the chat room and message board so popular.
Blog communitives have also attracted real-time friends (those in relationships not rooted in web-based communication) by allowing additional sharing of ideas, news, and other conversation that supplement the relationships.
